A fitment-first guide to the PLM Power Driven B-Series downpipe for B16, B18, and B20 top mount turbo builds, including flange, flex pipe, and O2 sensor checks.

Quick answer

Buy the PLM Power Driven B-Series downpipe only if your B16, B18, or B20 engine already runs the PLM B-Series top mount turbo manifold. It is a direct-fit 3-inch downpipe for that manifold, not a universal part. If you have a different manifold, bottom mount setup, or a newer FL5/DE5 chassis, choose a downpipe built for that specific application instead.

Start with the manifold, not the engine code

B16, B18, and B20 engines can use many different turbo manifolds, so the manifold is the part that decides whether this downpipe bolts on. The PLM Power Driven B-Series downpipe is made for the PLM B-Series top mount turbo manifold only. That means a B18C in an Integra and a B20 in a Civic can both use it, but only when the turbo is hung on that specific PLM top mount manifold.

Before ordering, look at your turbo flange and manifold outlet. A top mount places the turbo high and usually gives more room for a 3-inch downpipe than a low mount. If your manifold is not the PLM B-Series top mount, this downpipe is not a bolt-on part for you, and adapting it will cost more than choosing the correct downpipe.

What the PLM B-Series downpipe actually gives you

The pipe is a 3-inch mandrel-bent 304 stainless steel downpipe with a flex pipe, an O2 sensor bung, a 2-bolt exhaust connection, and a 4-bolt flange for the turbo connection. Those details matter more than a power claim: the 4-bolt flange has to match your turbo outlet, the flex pipe takes stress off the manifold as the engine moves, and the O2 bung gives you a place to run your sensor.

Vehicle applications listed for this part are Honda Civic 1988-2000 EF, EG, and EK, plus Acura Integra 1990-2001 DA and DC2. Those are chassis families, not a promise that every engine swap, mount kit, or turbo position in those cars will clear the pipe. Test-fit before final tightening.

Check the exhaust side before you buy

The downpipe ends in a 2-bolt exhaust connection. If your current mid pipe or cat-back is a different flange style or diameter, you will need an adapter or a matching exhaust section. A 3-inch downpipe feeding a small factory-style exhaust can still work, but it will not unlock the flow the pipe is built for.

If you are adapting a 2.5-inch downpipe to a 3.0-inch mid pipe on a Subaru, that is a different job and a different part. For a B-series top mount build, plan the whole exhaust path from turbo outlet to tailpipe before you order, so you are not buying twice.

O2 sensor and flex pipe details that cause most problems

The O2 sensor bung is there, but you still need to confirm your sensor threads and reach. Some builds run a wideband in the downpipe and a narrowband elsewhere; decide that before install so you are not adding a bung later. Keep the sensor wire away from the downpipe and manifold, and use a proper heat sleeve where it runs close.

The flex pipe is a wear item. If your engine mounts are soft or your downpipe has no bracket support, the flex section works harder and can fail early. Check mount condition and support the pipe where the chassis allows. A flex pipe is not a substitute for good mounts.

When a different downpipe is the better buy

If you drive a 2023+ FL5 Civic Type R or 2023+ DE5 Integra Type S, the PLM Power Driven Catted Downpipe is the application-specific choice and keeps a catalytic converter in the system. If you run a J-series V6 in a 2004-2008 TL or 2003-2007 Accord V6, the PLM Power Driven J-Series Header J-Pipe replaces the factory J-Pipe and is a different part entirely.

The point is simple: match the downpipe to the chassis and manifold you actually have. A B-series top mount downpipe is the right part for a narrow set of builds, and a poor fit for everything else. If you are not sure which manifold you have, identify it before ordering.

Decision rules for your B-series build

  • Rule 1: Manifold first: Confirm you have the PLM B-Series top mount turbo manifold. If you do not, stop and choose a downpipe made for your manifold. No PLM top mount manifold means no fit.
  • Rule 2: Match the turbo flange: The downpipe uses a 4-bolt flange at the turbo connection. Check your turbo outlet bolt pattern and gasket surface before ordering. A 4-bolt match is required.
  • Rule 3: Plan the exhaust connection: The downpipe ends in a 2-bolt connection. Match it to your mid pipe or cat-back, or plan the adapter and hanger support you need. Do not assume your current exhaust bolts up.
  • Rule 4: Decide O2 strategy early: Use the supplied O2 sensor bung for your primary sensor and confirm thread and reach. If you run a wideband, plan where it goes before install. Sensor placement is easier before the pipe is hot and tight.
  • Rule 5: Support the flex pipe: Check engine mounts and add downpipe support where possible. A flex pipe lasts longer when the engine is not moving excessively. Good mounts protect the flex section.

Product facts to compare

  • PLM Power Driven B-Series Downpipe For Top Mount Turbo Manifold B16 B18 B20: PLM Power Driven B-Series Downpipe For the B-series Top Mount Turbo Manifold: 3-inch mandrel-bent 304 stainless steel, flex pipe, O2 sensor bung, 2-bolt exhaust connection, 4-bolt turbo flange. Fits PLM B-Series Top Mount Turbo Manifold Only. Applications include Honda Civic 1988-2000 EF EG EK and Acura Integra 1990-2001 DA DC2. This is the fitment anchor: if you do not have the PLM B-Series top mount manifold, this downpipe is not a bolt-on. The 4-bolt turbo flange and 2-bolt exhaust connection are the two joints you must match.
  • PLM Power Driven Catted Downpipe 2023+ FL5 Civic Type R 2023+ DE5 Integra Type S: PLM Power Driven Catted Downpipe for 2023+ FL5 Civic Type R and 2023+ DE5 Integra Type S is engineered to optimize exhaust flow for power gains and engine performance while maintaining durability for street and track use. If your car is an FL5 or DE5, this is the application-specific catted option instead of forcing a B-series part. It is a different platform, so do not cross-shop it with the B-series downpipe.
  • PLM Power Driven J-Series Header J-Pipe TL V6 2004 - 2008 & Accord V6 2003 - 2007: PLM Power Driven J-Series Header J-Pipe for TL V6 2004-2008 and Accord V6 2003-2007 replaces the restrictive factory J-Pipe with an equal length long tube design, saves 11 lbs over OEM pipes, is made from 304 stainless steel, and uses bolt-on installation with typical hand tools. This shows how PLM separates applications: J-series V6 cars get a J-pipe, not a B-series downpipe. Use it to confirm you are shopping in the right product family.
  • PLM 2.5” to 3.0" Exhaust Adapter Flange: PLM 2.5-inch to 3.0-inch Exhaust Adapter Flange is made for Subarus with 2.5-inch OEM-sized downpipes to 3.0-inch mid pipes or cat-back exhaust, with a machined lip flange designed to eliminate exhaust leaks. If your exhaust connection does not match the downpipe outlet, an adapter may be needed, but this specific adapter is for Subaru 2.5-to-3.0 setups, not a universal B-series fix. Confirm your flange before adding one.
